Harbour for Cultures (H/C)
presentation by trieste contemporanea and transparadiso
From 1995 Trieste Contemporanea is an Italian hub on contemporary art and curatorial projects. Activities, archive and the library (available through the Italian National Library Service) are mainly focused on CEE visual art. Research studies, multidisciplinary projects, exhibitions, competitions, workshops and events are carried out in Trieste and abroad and form the Trieste Contemporanea’s “Dialogues with the Art of Central and Eastern Europe”, which are based on partnerships, co-productions and exchanges on an international level. Among Trieste Contemporanea’s recurrent events is the “CEI Venice Forum for Contemporary Art Curators,” an international biennial meeting held under the auspices of the Central European Initiative on the occasion of the opening of the Venice Biennale.
The project Harbour for Cultures (H/C) was first presented at the 8th CEI Venice Forum for Contemporary Art Curators from Central Eastern Europe.
The Venice Forum discussion initiated the H/C project and focussed on the social and cultural dimensions of these issues in view of shaping an image of a „new port“ where people freely exchange their own cultures, while assuring their core values, so that new profits (benefits of art and culture) are earned by the many.
H/C is an ongoing project focussing on the social and cultural dimensions of these issues in view of shaping an image of a „new port“ where people freely exchange their own cultures, while assuring their core values, so that new profits (benefits of art and culture) are earned by the many. H/C will create a network of art curators, artists and free thinkers from other disciplines, „experts“ and „non-experts“, to engage in curatorial workshops and meetings, in-depth studies, art exhibitions and multidisciplinary events.
Now H/C is entering a new phase: H/C wants to establish the H/C centre at Porto Vecchio – a contemporary art space for showing and producing art projects addressing current issues of society like migration, humanistic values and ecological issues. The H/C centre will also provide artist-in-residencies and host the library of contemporary art of trieste contemporanea. Currently H/C is setting up a support committee and advisory board, and looking for funding.
